As part of our Ecosystem unit, students have been getting plenty of exercise understanding the benefits and disadvantages to living in a group or as a solitary animal.
Our first lab was called Food Fight! Students were split into habitats and instructed to gather as much food as possible in a 3 minute time frame. Some students were solitary animals while others worked as a group of 2, 3, or 4. Each food item of different size was worth a different amount of points. The real challenge was that students were only able to touch the food items with their spoon!
Our second lab, titled Tag You’re Sick!, showed students how quickly disease can spread throughout a group of animals. (We are currently experiencing this in our classroom too!! 🙈) students that lived in a group had to lock arms. If one student was tagged, the whole group became sick. Our first game took about 30 seconds for everyone to become infected!

Learning can be fun!
Students in Mrs. Hansen’s 3rd grade class put their Auditory Processing skills to work in a restaurant setting building pizzas!
Each student had the opportunity to be a waiter or waitress who had to know all the menu items by memory. They then had to take the customers order and rely that order to the cook. We discussed ways to make this easier and tricks to help with memorization skills!
